Topic > Moringa Oleifera Case Study - 707

The world's population does not compromise on health issues. Basically perfect health is one of the primary needs of human being and he desires health, wealth and prosperity without any disastrous effect especially on health. Nature satisfies all the vital requirements of human beings in both health and disease, but you just need to explore it in time. Moringa oleifera is one of nature's precious gifts to man. It is a member of the Moringaceae family, commonly known as "sahajan", horseradish (represents the flavor of its root) or drumstick tree (illustrates the shape of the pods). In Senegal, it is commonly known as "Nebeday" which most likely means "never die" because it has the ability to survive even in a prolonged period of low rainfall (drought) and can grow from seed or cutting as well as has power to rejuvenate if same. It is also called “miracle tree” or “wonder tree” (Fuglie, 2001). In the Philippines it is more commonly called "mother's best friend" and "malunggay" because mothers give its cooked leaves to their babies for nutritional purposes (Price and L, 1985). It is mainly present in the tropics but native to the western areas and sub-Himalayan parts of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Asia Minor, Africa and India (Kumar et al., 2010, Makkar and Becker, 1997). It has valuable medicinal and nutritional value and an important member of nature's pharmacy have been using Moringa oleifera in their diet for mental alertness and skin health since 150 BC (Mahmood et al., 2010. It is on the list of neutraleutics ( Karim and Azlan, 2012). Since the roots are edible especially in Asia (Ferreira et al., 2008). TAXONOMIC CLASSIFICATION Kingdom; Plantae, Subkingdom Tracheobion...... half of the paper... Approximately one pod it has 12-35 seeds; and 15,000-25,000 seeds are formed by a tree in a year (Foidl et al., 2001, Radovich, 2011). oleifera has acquired a significant place in several tropics to combat malnutrition and has been given a specific name “natural nutrition for the tropics” by three private organizations: Trees for Life, Church World Service and Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization, because in the tropics most of the time in a year there is drought and many trees lose their nutritional content, but Moringa oleifera has the ability to tolerate drought, so people use it for food purpose especially in the dry season (Fahey, 2005 ). Analysis of Fresh Moringa Pods The leaves (raw) and dried leaf powder have been shown to contain the following per 100 grams of edible portion.
