Topic > Importance of Attribution Theory in Sports - 1482

We didn't play the way we wanted. Even though we struggled, we still did some things well. If we only focus on the things we liked; by boxing, playing tough defense and rebounding, we can get around those things and build on the things that needed to be worked on. I know we can take a step forward and play at a higher level. We just need to make some key changes and work on some things in practice and I think that will help in the next game. We can keep this defeat for tonight, but when you come to train tomorrow we won't have this feeling, we have to shake it off and start preparing for the next match. We just need to use this game as an opportunity to see what we need to work on and develop it. Once we improve what we need to do, I think we can achieve the level of success we want.” Attribution theory impacts how we speak to our team in the future, teaching us as coaches to be mindful of how we approach and motivate, not only our team as a whole, but our players as individuals. This is important because, as coaches, we want to inspire our teams and teach them to see their own successes and failures through their own attributions, not basing their success on results alone, but instead on their outcomes.
