Many poor women feel the need to prostitute themselves due to lack of money; since wealthier women do not suffer from this problem and have other sources of income, they do not feel the need to commit this crime and can easily scorn the idea of becoming a prostitute. Conflict theorists analyze prostitution as part of a larger problem of inequality and lack of resources. Women did not have equal access to economic opportunities. Although it is becoming increasingly rare in some societies, women are prohibited from owning their own property; and in others, they face discrimination when they try to work and earn money to support themselves. When they are denied the ability to support themselves, they must rely financially on the support of others, such as men. For a conflict theorist, there is very little difference whether a woman exchanges her sexual availability for work such as prostitution or for marriage; the overall cause is the same as that which must depend on a
