In the story A Jury of His Peers written by Susan Glaspell the characters are changed with the hope of evolving in front of the reader. One character who changes throughout the story is Mrs. Peters. Mrs. Peters is the local sheriff's wife who is quite submissive to her husband, Mr. Hale. Throughout the story we see his attempt to overcome his submissive nature and help hide the truth about Minnie Wright's guilt. Mrs. Hale states in the story, "When I was a girl, my kitten - there was a boy took a hatchet and before my eyes - and before I could get there - "that's when you notice a change in his character. First, Ms. Peters wanted to let the men in the story take over and even allow them to belittle women's instincts and ability to find evidence. After the above quote, you saw a new side of her. Mrs. Peters was much more open to the idea of hiding the bird with its neck twisted to hide the fact that Minnie Wright had actually killed her.
