Based on the principle of autonomy, the patient has the right to make choices regarding treatment. However, in the case of pregnancy termination, does autonomy (the parent's decision to terminate the pregnancy) prevail over beneficence and non-maleficence? Can we terminate a pregnancy when it is unwanted? Approximately 98% of abortions in the United States are performed within the first 15 weeks of pregnancy, and most occur when the mother's life or health is at risk or in cases of severe fetal abnormalities (Perry, 2001). In my opinion, in such circumstances, when the health of the mother and child is at risk, the choice of abortion should not be immoral. I am not sure if I can eliminate fetuses with anomalies such as anencephaly, Down syndrome, and congenital heart defects as presented in the case scenarios. I am really not sure whether proceeding with abortion would be a right choice or we should proceed with pregnancy depending on the viability and chances of survival after the
