Topic > Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence Rhetoric...

Overall, Thomas Jefferson's use of appeals and stylistic devices helps develop a strong and persuasive argument. He clearly demonstrated his point about the necessity of the independence of the thirteen colonies from England. With logos, the public can feel confident that the claims and evidence they proposed supported them. He developed pathos by using strong descriptive diction that allowed the audience to clearly relate and connect with him on a personal level. With the use of ethics, he was able to demonstrate that he was knowledgeable about what he was saying and create a sense of safety and security. Finally, with the use of stylistic devices, Jefferson offers the public a more enjoyable manuscript. Before reading and analyzing the Declaration of Independence, I believed that it currently had an important impact on the United States government. While I believed it had a lot of impact, I was able to learn a significant amount of new information throughout the document. Because Thomas Jefferson used reminders and stylistic devices to develop his argument, it allowed me to fully understand and connect more with the history of the United States.
