Topic > Stereotypical waking sex by Kate Chopin

She is a wonderful example because she is so different than expected. She is a friend of Edna, as the story states: “But Mademoiselle Reisz waited. He was very amiable on the journey home, and was very enthusiastic about Edna's appearance in the bathing suit” (50). This is a common compliment that women say to other women, but she experiences life very differently than other women. She's much more outspoken and doesn't really care what people make her up to be. She has a little spice to her attitude that makes her less of a "lady" and more of a "woman." An excerpt on page fifty states: "'Why should I go swimming at the very end of the season when I have not been in the waves all summer,' replied the woman, unpleasantly" (48). This quote shows that she has some courage, and she really doesn't have that degree of kindness like other women of that period Her character could be extremely pleasant or exceptionally surprising to the reader because a character of her kind is not always found in all works literary too so outspoken makes her almost an obstacle for Edna. In comparison, the two characters have something, at best, in common. Edna, at first, is quite simple, obedient and sober be a lady. If she doesn't want to do something a male asks her to do, she won't do it too
