Topic > The Myth of White Privilege - 1845

Many white Americans live with the fear that they don't really deserve their success and that perhaps luck and privilege have more to do with it, rather than brains and hard work . There are numerous reasons for widespread discrimination at all levels, but the main reason for the existence of discrimination is the privilege given to certain groups of people and the widespread social prejudice against certain groups of people. Differences between people have always existed, but they only gain importance when different importance is given to certain differences, thus creating privileges. Privileged people in a society are often unaware of their privilege. It is very easy to ignore privilege. The problem of discrimination is very complex and there is no single formula that can solve it. There are general patterns in a white supremacist culture that all white people have privilege, regardless of whether they are racist themselves or not. While researching the existence of white privilege, I found two articles with the opposite point of view on related information. Although both authors are Caucasian, they have completely opposite views on the existence of white privilege. While Peggy McIntosh tries to raise awareness among Caucasians of their privilege, Duke wants them to understand that they are in the same position as all other races. Explain that awareness of “white privilege” is just a mistake that causes baseless guilt. Although both authors have excellent rhetorical skills and their claims are supported by evidence and sources of information, Peggy McIntosh is more successful than Selwyn Duke, because she used historical and cultural facts,... center of paper... referring to Dr. Gerhard Falk's commentary on American Jews. To explain the case in which certain races or ethnic groups dominate in different fields is not just an American phenomenon, he cites Professor Walter Williams, who wrote about the privileges of the Chinese minority in Malaysia. He also quotes talk show host Michael Savage who, after earning his doctorate, had difficulty finding a job in his chosen field and was told in such clear words that "white men don't need to apply." Given these facts, the author tries to demonstrate that racial differences and privileges appear exaggerated and unrealistic. The privileged and the less privileged exist at all levels of society. Duke wants white people to understand that they are in the same position as all other races. Awareness of “white privilege” is just a mistake that causes baseless guilt.
