Hamlet is a man of words, not of actions. His delay in reacting after discovering that Claudious is behind his father's murder was tempered by his desire to validate the Old Hamlets ghost's information to see if what he had told him was indeed the truth: "I will play these players something like the murder of my father before my uncle... The play is the occasion in which the conscience of the king is captured (p.31) Hamlet believed that the play would reveal the guilt of Claudius through the actor's emotions and talent on stage. Hamlet's plan turned out to be perfect, causing Claudius to react suspiciously to this act due to his guilt.
