Not many people know that I like listening to classical music and that I would like to become a band teacher in the future. Music for me has been one of the most important attributes of my life and has helped shape me into who I am today. When I was a child in elementary school, I began to notice that I had a natural ability when it came to music. In fifth grade, there were several levels of music we had to make on the recorder before moving on to the next. It was basically like karate, where you start as a white belt and over time you become a black belt. It turns out that I was a fast learner when it came to learning a new instrument because I was the first in the class to receive a black belt on the recorder. Then, during middle school, it was obvious that I was one of the best musicians in the band, but that's not the main reason why music is a big part of my life. For most of my sixth grade year, I didn't hang out with many people, so I would go to the band room and practice until band class started. Eventually, when I got to high school, the band became something completely different from the middle school band. Before school actually started, there was a week-long band camp that all students had to attend, and during which I started to make a lot more friends.
