Topic > The War on Drugs - 1257

At the beginning there was no intention of making war. The poor people of Mexico started selling drugs, especially marijuana and vials, for truly noble reasons. It was out of necessity that drug trafficking began in Mexico. For example: “In the 1950s the mining crisis in the northern states of Chihuahua and Sonora forced some workers to farm…” because employment was low. Since then the drug trade has changed in many ways. Now the drug lords and the Mexican government are at war, now the Mexican people are torn between supporting the drug cartels or supporting government action against them. The United States is partly responsible for the overwhelming power that drug cartels hold. Therefore it would be right for the Mexican and American governments to work together to take down drug cartels. To understand the drug war between the Mexican government and Mexican drug lords and their cartels you need to know a little history. It all started in the 1940s. Cultivation of poppies for pharmaceutical use was a way for Mexico to provide work for its population as it was the only country in Latin America to produce opium. The United States was the one that needed the drugs during World War II, so the first drug trafficking in Mexico occurred between Mexico and the United States, as it still does today. Ten years later, marijuana and ampoule cultivation began due to limited job opportunities in Chihuahua and Sonora. Then the 60s and 70s arose. Although the United States had drug restrictions by law, the demand for marijuana and heroin increased dramatically. Therefore the drug cartels were able to make more money than ever because not only the dems... middle of paper... the revolution could end, but they actually increased corruption and at the same time also violence because the the cartels simply want to be left alone and so they terrorize innocents to get the Mexican government to leave them alone and now actually the Mexican government has taken a step back because "over 60,000 people have died." and that's just in 2006. And the reason why the cartels are so easily able to fight the Mexican government is because the US provides easy access to weapons and helps some cartels get stronger to capture others and also is killing innocent people. So it seems like the war on drugs isn't going to end anytime soon, but unfortunately, it could be for the best. The problem cannot be solved without the help of the United States because of the important role it plays not only in requesting drugs but also in supplying weapons..
