Through events and demonstrations, Mad Pride informs the public of the struggle mental patients have faced and continue to face today. Modeled on movements such as Gay Pride and Black Pride, Mad Pride is considered the next great civil movement of the twenty-first century. The crazy movement has already started to expand across the world, with events occurring in over seven countries including Australia, South Africa and Canada. Activists join forces to educate the public that people suffering from mental illnesses are simply normal people and deserve to be treated as such. Negative portrayals of mental patients in the media are false, and the Mad Pride Movement backs that claim.
