Topic > Stressful Scenarios in the Social Work Field - 528

When it comes to working in the social work field, I know and understand that there will be many amazing opportunities for me, but I also understand that I will not be able to help every person who he comes to me for help. When a person comes for help, whether voluntary or involuntary, the helper tries to do everything possible to help him. I'm sure many social workers will say it's a wonderful feeling knowing you've helped just one person and I can't wait to have that feeling too, but I think what if I couldn't be as effective for the next person as I am I was at the other one and this weighs on me because then I worry if I said the wrong things to the customer or if I used the right skills to help this customer. One of the things I learned in my courses is that a helper or social worker cannot help everyone they meet. That would be a wonderful thing to do but it doesn't always work out that way. I know that wanting to help people is important, but I also know that it's important for the customer to do their part when it comes to helping and if the customer doesn't want help, then I have to accept that and hope that they do. one day, but I also can't let that stop me from moving on to the next hopeful person who needs help. Another thing I worry about is the fact that two people can come to me with the same problem but may require different solutions. For example, I have two clients who are addicted to illegal substances and for one client we decide that he should go to rehab, which may not work for the next client because he may have already been to rehab and had an unsuccessful time with it and wants to know if there are other options. This part for me ties back to my enthusiasm in working with different types of people as a social worker because it is interesting but could also be stressful when it comes to finding different solutions for clients with the same problem. I also worry about being emotionally involved when dealing with customers. I describe myself as a caring and understanding person and I know that these traits are important in the field I will be working in, but I also know that having these traits may be something my clients can use against me.
