Self-efficacy allows an individual to overcome barriers with an air of confidence (Bumann & Younkin, 2012). According to Robbins and Judge (2009), individuals with low self-efficacy may give up more easily than other individuals with higher self-efficacy. Although theories of self-efficacy and goal setting may seem to contradict each other, research has indicated increased self-confidence among individuals who had set and expected high goals (Robbins & Judge, 2009).
