What does the organization/group you volunteered for do for the community? The Eagle Scout project and the Webelos Experience that I volunteered for are both run by the Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts is a program in which children aged 11 to 18 participate, while Cub Scouts participates in children aged 7 to 11. At the Webelos Experience, Boy Scouts help run the stations for the Webelos. Webelos is the highest rank in Cub Scouts. This program teaches the values of citizenship and leadership among many things. We can see these values spill over into the real world as many people who accomplished great things were in the Boy Scout program. These people include New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Barber Conable, the president of the World Bank, and even presidents Gerald Ford and John F. Kennedy. The Boy Scouts makes its participants better people and commonly volunteer in the community, such as organizing food drives and helping at flag ceremonies at many locations, including City Hall. I also volunteered at my church, St. Joan of Arc. St. Joan of Arc is very active in the community and goes on missions and participates in the Mobile Loaves and Fishes program every year. St. Joan of Arc also participates in a program in which the church builds affordable housing for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and/or low-income. What did you do for the service? For my service I helped build a Purple Martin House, run team building activities at the Webelos Experience, and help in my church's daycare. A Purple Martin is a type of bird that is very dependent on humans to survive. Building Purple Martin homes protects Purple Martins from predators. When I helped build the Purple Martin House, I helped put it in the ground. To do this I had to help dig the dirt to... middle of paper... I helped the community in many ways, including children's leadership development, protecting the Purple Martin, and playing with young children . Developing children's leadership is important to the community because these children are the future of America. These children will become teachers, government officials, lawyers, doctors and can pursue many careers. By helping build the Purple Martin House I am protecting the ecosystem we all share. If we continue to ignore our ecosystem, we will cause harm to all of us on planet Earth. By volunteering at my church's daycare I help the community by taking care of people's children. This is all considered community service because I serve my community by doing all the activities mentioned above. Furthermore, I am improving my community by doing these activities, which further proves that what I have done is a community service.
