Topic > Louis and Ophelia in Trading Places - 640

John Landis directed the film Trading Places. The film is about Louis, a snobbish investor, and Billy, a street con artist, who find their lives turned upside down due to a bet by two millionaires. Louis' girlfriend Penelope leaves him after his life completely changes. After a couple of days he meets Ophelia, who welcomes him into her apartment and takes care of him during his difficulties. Both of these women are an important part of Louis' life but they are very different. Their appearance, their personality and the way they are involved with Louis can be compared and contrasted. Appearance can always be used to compare and contrast two characters in a film. Penelope is a brunette with medium length hair. She also wears makeup that makes her look sophisticated and important. The makeup she wears makes her look nothing less than a rich woman. His clothes are also rich fashion. He almost always wears a fashionable hat and a smart coat. His house looks as rich as his clothes portray it. With a huge house, multiple unused rooms, and of course, a butler at her disposal, she can only be classified as rich. On the other hand, Ophelia is almost the exact opposite. The only thing that's the same between the two is that Ophelia also has brown hair, but it's much shorter than Penelope's. Ophelia, however, is not always dark; Sometimes she wears a red-haired wig. Because of her job title, prostitute, she has many different colored wigs in her apartment that she switches off from job to job. Even her daily makeup is influenced by her work. She usually has more makeup on than necessary. This includes red lipstick and an excessive amount of eye shadow. Ophelia also lives in a one-bedroom apartment. While both women were in… among the papers… out of prison, Ophelia allows him to stay in her apartment until he gets his job and his house back. . She trusts him to be there and not steal anything even when she is not there. After a while their connection grows and they start to really like each other. Ophelia doesn't care if he's rich or poor, she likes him for who he is, unlike Penelope. Penelope and Ophelia can be compared and contrasted in their appearance, their personality, and the way they are involved with Louis. Penelope is more conservative and dresses in expensive clothes while Ophelia dresses for her job as a prostitute. Ophelia was thoughtful and helpful to Louis while Penelope was rude and snobbish. Penelope disowned Louis once he got out of prison and became poor. Ophelia helped Louis in the most difficult moments and liked him for him and not for his money. Both of these women played an important part in Louis' life, but in their own ways.
