Dominant culture has taken root in white supremacy by designating an established language, value systems, and social customs that represent those of the norm, however, in the process exiling those of one race, religion, and gender different . Unfortunately, however, these oppression mentalities originate in childhood. The dominant culture has shaped the differences within society, but has inflicted the mentality of ignoring them, copying them, and destroying everything considered subordinate (Lorde 115). As Lorde points out, “we have all been programmed to respond to the human difference between us with fear and disgust” (115), but it is this programming that has been taken care of by dominant sovereignty. The idea that people are treated differently or unequally is illustrated as negative because it goes against society's fixation with the ideology of equality, so it should be ignored. However, it is precisely this “refusal to recognize those differences and examine distortions” that has led to the introduction of systematic oppression within society, consequently creating terrible barriers for those who are not part of the “norm” and they cannot be overcome (Lord 115). Society's response to the disregard of inequality only continues to separate civilization as a whole and reinforce the dominant culture as such
