Topic > Differences Between Captain Thomas Preston's Narrative of the Boston Massacre (1770)

I will discuss the differences between Captain Thomas Preston's Narrative of the Boston Massacre (1770) and Paul Revere, Picture of the Bloody Massacre (1770). I will explain the story of both men starting with Captain Thomas Preston's view of the event, then I will explain Paul Revere's version of the event. I will then include my opinion on which account I think is more accurate and explain why. Captain Thomas Preston's vision of the Boston Massacre was an incident in which a British soldier accidentally fired his weapon and his men followed him after resulting in the deaths of five Bostonians. including the free black sailor Cripus Attucks. Starting the story Captain Thomas Preston admits that the arrival of Majesty's troops was hateful to the inhabitants. The troops did everything in their power to weaken the regiments by spreading falsehoods about them. At 8am on Monday two soldiers were beaten and the townspeople broke into two meeting houses and rang the bells. But at 9 o'clock some troops informed Captain Thomas Preston that the bell was not ringing to warn of a fire but to warn the troops of the attack that the citizens were about to launch against them. The citizens then surround the townhouse. where the king's money was stored and he threatened to kill the troops with clubs. He then received information that crowds of people claimed to have killed the troop by carrying him away from his post. Captain Thomas Preston then sent a petty officer and 12 men to protect the sentry and the king's money in the hope of de-escalating the situation before it got out of control. After arriving, Captain Thomas Preston encountered rural crowds shouting and using profanity against the troops and telling them to shoot. C...... middle of paper ......n Thomas Preston has portrayed the correct story. The reason for my decision is because, unlike Paul Revere, Captain Thomas Preston tells a very detailed story about the events that occurred that day. He also admits to being at fault for some of the vomiting that occurred that day. On the other hand Paul Revere was very one-sided and only tried to paint the troops as bad men. Captain Thomas Preston, even though he was the only captain of the day, made the difference in history. I discussed the differences between Captain Thomas Preston's Account of the Boston Massacre (1770) and Paul Revere, Image of The Bloody Massacre (1770). I then explained the story of both men starting with Captain Thomas Preston's vision of the event. Then I explained the version of the event to Paul Revere. I then included my opinion on which account I thought was more accurate and explained why.
