Cyberbullying continues to increase with the increasing use of the Internet in our daily lives. What is cyberbullying? It is the use of technology to deliberately upset someone. “Cyberbullying is becoming a growing problem in the United States; some states have even made cyberbullying illegal” (Dalton-Loomis). This topic affects me closely because my little brother was a victim of cyberbullying when he was starting middle school. Bullying that occurs through different devices, prevention and consequences of cyberbullying are some of the main aspects of this article. When my brother started sixth grade, his teeth were a mess. Many people have crooked teeth before they get braces, so you wouldn't think it's a problem, right? Wrong. The kids in his class thought he would be an easy target to make fun of. They would then send him abusive messages about his teeth and his appearance, using their iPod touches and laptops. My brother finally got braces and started taking more advanced karate lessons to help him get into shape and learn how to protect himself. Even though nothing serious happened to him, it still put a damper on how he views some of his classmates, and he will carry that scar for the rest of his life. He is currently in high school, has a lot of muscles and straight teeth. Bullies use a variety of methods to exhibit bullying. Text messages and phone calls are one of the easiest ways to contact someone. There is a possibility that you may receive unpleasant and threatening messages and calls persistently and anonymously. Someone could send cruel emails anonymously. Social media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, MySpace) helps everyone hide behind a profile, some of which could easily be a hoax. Fake accounts can make it easier to get away with...... middle of paper ......mage actually reminds me of my brother, because he's a blond boy, and because he cried from the kids on the computer instead of crying for the physical pain. In conclusion, this topic is very sensitive for me because it really happened to someone close to me. Remember to ask questions before entering the world of cyberbullying and also look for signs that people are being bullied. Works Cited Arnold, Bryant. Victims of cyberbullying on the Internet.
