This would be my account of what happened to Anne and her family while World War II was in action, once converted into a stage and film format. I'm sure both of these versions are much less graphic than how Anne and her family saw them. I just hope Anne feels they do her story justice. Both the stage and film versions of The Diary of Anne Frank focus on Anne Frank and her family's experiences in hiding. However, there are some similarities, including how Anne distributes gifts to her family members and other people in the annexe, and some differences, such as the relationship between Anne and Peter and the relationship between Margot and Peter. One similarity is that when Hanukkah came to the annex, Anne gave each of them a heartfelt gift. (page 514 starting with Margot and ending with Mr. Dussel on page 516.) Anne gave Margot a crossword, shampoo to Mrs. Van Daan, cigarettes to Mr. Van Daan, Mrs. Frank an IOU for 10 hours of services , Mr. Frank a scarf, Mouschi a toy, Peter a safety razor and Mr. Dussel's earplugs. In the film the dialogues have changed, but the actions and gifts have not. Each person showed the same emotions they showed in the movie and the underlying emotion of joy. The reason the filmmakers most likely kept it the same was to show that even though Anne could have left Hanukkah alone and continued to sing the songs and light the candles, she chose not to. It showed that even though they were hiding in the middle of a war, Anne wanted everyone to have fun. Even when it meant he wouldn't get any presents, he never wavered or complained. This demonstrated his maturity and ability to improve even the worst situations. One big difference I noticed was the re... halfway through the paper......for this to actually happen, both reviewers stuck with Anne's diary. Although there were differences in Anne and Peter's love life and how Margot and Peter became just friends, I assume it was a difficult task to convert the diary into this format. The similarities to Anne delivering the presents were the most heartfelt moments to show where Anne grew up and it made sense to include them in both. It was heartbreaking for both of them to know that the Franks, the Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel had to endure this terrible time. Anne, Margot and Peter have to endure it as children. Knowing that it is not fiction and that this actually happened not only to them, but to others is unfathomable to me and I will never be able to understand it unless I am unlucky enough to face it myself. Maybe not even then. Works Cited The Diary of Anne Frank, pages from films and games 514, 516, 540
