Dossey's (2010) article states that Florence was the "philosophical founder of modern nursing, the first recognized nursing theorist, and her legacy it is the holistic nursing movement” (p. 14) . Florence was more than just a theoretical nurse. She took her life's work and experiences and made them available to help teach and shape future students to become great nurses. It did this by establishing a model for nursing training schools in England (Dossey, 2010). Once used and proven successful, they spread throughout the world and the foundation of his work is still used today (Dossey, 2010). She was also a healer during the Crimean War during 1854-1856, helping to care for soldiers and providing healthcare to those in battle (Dossey, 2010). Providing care to the wounded in battle is truly heroic work, and Florence was a great blessing to all those men and women who served in war and needed her care. Florence was the first woman to receive the award from the London Statistical Society in 1858, and the Order of the Merit award in 1902 (Dossey, 2010). He received many other awards for his achievements and hard work, including a museum in his honor. The Florence Nightingale Museum was built in 1982 to protect all of Florence's letters, awards, and contributions she made to the nursing profession (Florence, 2012). The museum was intended to make the work and spirit of Florence seem real
