Topic > Disadvantages of Homeschooling - 2466

For some students, the best place to go to school may actually be found at home. When students are in a large classroom in a typical public school, they may not receive the attention they need. With classes larger than ever, students in a classroom must compete with up to forty other students for the teacher's attention. Students who struggle with a subject find it difficult to get one-on-one help. All these problems can be solved if a student has the opportunity to experience homeschooling. In a society as diverse as that of the United States, many families also want their children to be educated in an environment that expresses their values. This is especially true for parents with strong religious views who disagree with things. Fewer students in public schools get to absorb things that would help them succeed better, but homeschooled students get the benefit of learning the things that best suit them. Ray stated that: “The most common reasons given for homeschooling are the use of pedagogical approaches different from those typical of institutional schools” (Ray). Teachers can only provide the student with the material they are given to teach that subject. They have a manual that they review. In the same article, Ray stated, “Personalize or individualize the curriculum and learning environment for each child” (Ray). All public school students are taught the same lesson for every subject they study. Teachers teach the same way, but with homeschooling there are more options. Quinn said, “Occasionally we let the kids take a day off from “formal” school and go to SciTech or a park and let them play all day and be kids” (Quinn). The child does not have to sit in a classroom and learn. Teaching can happen wherever they are. The parent teaching wouldn't have time to hang out like they used to. When their children would be in school every day from 8am to 3pm, they would have all day to do the things they want. They have to stay home and teach. In the article "Advantages and disadvantages of home education" it was written: "The teacher parent has less time for himself" (Advantages and disadvantages). For example, they could not go to work in the morning. Some parents would not want to stay at home and teach their children when there are people teaching in public
