Stanley Yelnats IV climbed the same mountain that Elya Yelnats and Stanley Yelnats Senior also climbed decades earlier. Stanley Yelnats Senior had climbed this mountain to take refuge on it and survive after being abandoned in the middle of nowhere. It tells us that Stanley had found the same place that his great-grandfather had found many years before, trying to survive as Zero and himself were. There are many things that change in Camp Green Lake including the lake, there was once water in the lake in the 1800s and now there is none. The water is dry and barren. The only things surviving out there in the middle of nowhere are deadly spotted lizards and venomous rattlesnakes live in a hot and humid climate and they go and all have different reasons for being at Camp Green Lake Most of them are sent there because of a crime they committed. Stanley was sent to the camp for stealing Clyde Livingstone's shoes who had donated to the homeless shelter was found running away with the shoes, he hadn't stolen them. The x-ray was sent there again for a different reason. “He crawled after him and barely managed to fit his body through the hole. He would never have been in shape when he first arrived at Camp Green Lake. He had lost a lot of weight” (Sachar 1998, p. 156). Here it is suggested that Stanley's physical appearance had also changed dramatically. Stanley was fatter when he first arrived at Camp Green Lake and was now much thinner. This is a minor change that has occurred at Camp Green Lake. While many things have changed in this novel, there are some that have remained the same over the decades. I want to drink from the stream and I want you to sing me the song” (Sachar 1998, p. 31). This condition caused all of Elya Yelnats' descendants to be cursed. This curse remained the same throughout the decades and was cast on Stanley Yelnats IV.
