A neutral ending occurs when one of these conditions is met: the protagonist does not befriend all the plot-crucial characters (Papyrus, Undyne, Alphys) OR the protagonist kills any monsters. The Neutral Route ends with the protagonist's escape alone from the subway. There are several possible variations of this ending depending on the choices made during the game. The true pacifist ending occurs when all these conditions are met: a neutral course has been completed. No monsters were killed during the game. (The protagonist cannot gain any EXP and, as a result, cannot progress beyond LV 1.) Papyrus, Undyne, and Alphys have become friends. A genocide path has NOT been completed before. Performing a Pacifist run after a Genocide run will result in a changed "Soulless Pacifist" ending. The path of the true pacifist ends with the breaking of the barrier and the possibility of the protagonist and the underground monsters to leave. Additionally, this route will feature the True Pacifist credits. This ending only occurs when all enemies in each area (Ruins, Snowdin Forest, Waterfall, Hot Zone/CORE) are killed until none remain.
