Thus begins a long and tiring journey for Jamal. Recently his friends convinced him to break into William Forrester's house to understand why the old man was watching them, convinced he had a murderous plan. Jamal gets caught and accidentally leaves his precious notebooks in the apartment. Forrester reads the notebooks and criticizes them. Jamal returns hoping for more, and while Forrester initially has an attitude that makes him formidable, Jamal keeps coming back amazed by this stranger's ingenious talent. Jamal is trying to adjust to his new school and his new team, but finds it impossible. On top of that, his writing seems to continue to fall short of the stranger's expectations. This shakes his confidence. Not only is it difficult to adjust to his new life, but his old life is starting to dissolve right before his eyes. He first thought he could intertwine his two lives, but his friends made it impossible. They have begun to reject him and ignore him when he returns.
