Their capital, the great city of Tenochtitlan, was located on an island in Lake Texcoco, where Mexico City is today. The Aztecs were the last of the great Mesoamerican cultures. They lived approx. from the year 1200 to the year 1600. It is believed that the people may have immigrated from northern Mexico or the southern United States. An interesting period which, due to the very religious beliefs of the Aztecs, had to bow in the dust to the Spaniards. How could an empire as powerful as the Aztec Empire be conquered in such a short time? I will try to explain how it came about that an empire as powerful as the Aztec Empire was conquered in a short time, analyzing the meeting between the Spanish and the Aztecs and discussing the conquest. Problem Formulation • Give a brief account of Aztec society.• Then analyze the point of view of the Spaniards on the Aztecs based on the sources...... middle of the document ......t immune defense against these diseases. In fact, it is estimated that more Aztecs died from smallpox during the final battles for Tenochtitlan than from Spanish weapons. Evaluation + Conclusion My overall evaluation is that all factors played a role in the battle for the Aztec Empire. However, as far as I know, the religious beliefs held by the Spanish played the most important role in the defeat of the Aztecs. I consider the Aztecs a little naive. I can conclude that the Spanish, despite being welcomed with gifts and gold, massacred the Aztec empire. I can also conclude that there is no definitive answer as to how the relatively small Spanish force managed to overwhelm the Aztec empire, but that it was likely an interaction between several factors.
