Indian culture has many traditions that influence or lead to other traditions in other religions as well. Many of their traditions may seem strange, some may still seem strange after hearing the origin, but they are that way for a reason. Of all cultures, Indian is the one with the most wedding traditions and they are all present at every wedding. Their wedding traditions are some of the most important traditions in Indian culture, which is why there are so many of them. In Hindu culture, there are eight different types of weddings, most with their own traditions, and each is celebrated differently. The first is the Brahma marriage, the most religiously appropriate marriage: the father finds an educated man and proposes marriage to his daughter. The groom, the bride and their families willingly accept the proposal. The two families and relatives meet, the girl is ceremoniously decorated, the father gives his daughter away in betrothal, and a Vedic marriage ceremony is performed. Then there is the Daiva wedding. In this marriage, the father gives the daughter along with ornaments to a priest as sacrificial compensation. This form of marriage began in ancient times, when yajna sacrifices were the majority. Then there is Arsha's wedding. With this marriage the groom gives a cow and a bull to the bride's father and the father exchanges his daughter in marriage. The groom vows to fulfill his responsibilities towards the bride and family life. Finally there is Prajapatia's wedding. A couple agrees to get married by exchanging some Sanskrit mantras or vows. This form of marriage was similar to the civil ceremony. Arranged marriages are very common in India. Arranged marriages have been a part of Indian culture since the 4th century... middle of paper... the next ceremony is the Sangeet. This is a joyous night party held the evening before the wedding and is an opportunity to enjoy the moment with music, dancing and food. With so many traditions there is no way I can cover them all, so I have chosen the most cultural and respected traditions in India. Their traditions all have a very deep meaning and date back centuries, which is why they are made with care and respect. Even though the traditions haven't really changed over time, so they seem antiquated, it's those traditions that really started the modern wedding ceremony. Before Indian culture influenced others, a simple currency or trade agreement was enough to obtain a woman's hand in marriage, and it wasn't up to her, even if she didn't want it. Therefore, Indian culture and tradition are very important and sacred, that's why they haven't really changed.
