Topic > Marijuana Should Be Legalized - 906

Marijuana has been one of the most controversial drugs in America since its first day. People are skeptical about legalization or not. As a child, your parents told you that drugs were bad for you and that you shouldn't do them. As a child you don't understand the reasoning, but you had to listen to what your parents say and do what they say too. I realized that people were doing drugs even though it was illegal. I asked most of my friends if they had ever tried marijuana and few of them said yes; I asked them why, they said they wanted the drug experience. Why did this drug become illegal all over the world? The decision to produce marijuana has been controversial since the drug was discovered. Marijuana can be used for many purposes, such as medical treatment, and can help boost the economy. For these reasons, marijuana should be legalized across the country. Marijuana is recognized all over the world, even in third world countries. Marijuana is known to be a drug that gives a “high” to the user and is illegal in most countries around the world. Some places have strict laws when it comes to marijuana users, while others are lenient. The United States is one of the countries that enforces strict laws on the use of marijuana, while Canada, on the other hand, is more lenient regarding marijuana laws. Today more and more people are deciding to support the legalization of marijuana in America. There are many reasons why marijuana should be legalized nationwide. One of these reasons is that marijuana can be used as a medical drug. Twenty states, including Washington DC, have approved medical marijuana. According to NORML, the website that supports the use of marijuana states that “modern research suggests that cannabis is a valuable aid in the treatment of a wide range of clinical applications. These include pain relief – particularly neuropathic pain (pain due to nerve damage) – nausea, spasticity, glaucoma and movement disorders. Marijuana is also a powerful appetite stimulant, particularly for patients with HIV, AIDS wasting syndrome, or dementia. Emerging research suggests that the medicinal properties of marijuana may protect the body against certain types of malignancies and are neuroprotective” (NORML). This shows that marijuana can help many people suffering from these diseases to recover..
