I had the opportunity to explore the traits and interactions involving an authentic "Romanesque Gypsy" growing up in the United States. In contrast to my ethical, Latin American background, I found few similarities in our family traditions. However, the Romanichals do not enjoy cultural privileges compared to me. My argument explains the misconceptions that evoke the most unfavorable difficulties. Misinterpretations have masked intriguing features that romanichals have to offer. Typical stereotypes usually concern the poor. Luckily for me, I have never been stereotyped as needy or poor. Nor am I required to hide my true identity as I achieve happiness and success. My interviewee's biggest challenge: Avoiding false stereotypes and American misconceptions. After hearing the personal struggle to gain cultural privileges, I realize how lucky I am to recognize the true characteristics behind the traditions followed by Romanesque gypsies.
