Project-based learning is one of my favorite teaching practices. I believe that asking students to research, design, and execute a project on the topic of their interest is the best means to truly gain new knowledge. When I was a child I always asked my parents how computers worked. They themselves, unsure of the answer, told me to understand something. They would give me an old computer and let me deconstruct and rebuild until I figured it out and it worked.
