Authors Cabrera, NJ, Shannon, JD, Tamis-LeMonda, C. state that President Obama gave a Father's Day speech on June 21, 2009, in which stated, “We need fathers to step up." (p.215) We expect fathers to protect and provide for their family while the mother takes care of the children and home. According to one article, President Obama said, “As fathers, we need to be involved in our children's lives, not just when it's convenient or easy and when they're doing well, but when it's difficult and during their struggles.” (Parade, 2011) That's when fathers are absolutely more obligatory, especially towards their daughters. We look to our fathers for guidance in discipline and commitment. While we give to the fathers the opportunity to make a positive change, but it seems that many refuse to take on the responsibility expected of them. I'm not saying this is what all fathers do, however most of them fall into this realm
