Models of communication have changed dramatically over the years. Historically, the only way to communicate was to write a letter, which usually took a while to reach its destination. Then, technology began to grow with the invention of the telephone in 1876. Technology continued to grow with the invention of the computer around 1936 which then led us to email in the 1970s. With the advent of computer technology and the search for faster ways to communicate, social media and networks were born. Social media is a way for people to interact with each other, share photos online, and exchange thoughts or ideas about something. The increased use of social networks, such as Facebook, has changed the means by which people achieve and practice the communication and social skills needed to function in their daily lives. This form of communication has changed the way people view their friendships and relationships, caused problems with people's privacy, and resulted in an increase in cyberbullying. Social networking has changed the way people interact with each other on a daily basis. The social network Facebook has had a huge impact in this regard. Social networks have both advantages and disadvantages. Social networking on Facebook has dramatically changed the number of people one can interact with on a regular basis, an individual communicated with the people who were part of their daily life. In the past, a person interacted and communicated with others at work, school, or in the neighborhood. Nowadays it is possible to interact with people from all over the world. Some people have hundreds or thousands of friends online. Never in the past would a person have been able to interact so much with others. Another plus for networking… half paper… regarding the digital footprints they are leaving behind.
