However, it presents with poor word reading, word decoding, oral reading fluency, and spelling. Although with appropriate teaching methods, dyslexic people can be successful lifelong learners. Furthermore, if properly trained and informed, a dyslexic can use their natural abilities to change perceptions, increase creativity, sharpen thinking and improve physical performance (Centre for Dyslexia and Learning Disabilities). Research shows that dyslexia is not linked to intelligence but actually occurs in people of all backgrounds and at all intellectual levels. Many dyslexics have very high IQs and have managed to achieve exceptional things in their lives. For example, Albert Einstein was dyslexic and had an estimated IQ of 160; furthermore, over half of NASA employees suffer from dyslexia (Dyslexia Facts and Statistics, 2010). People with dyslexia excel in the fields of art, computing, design, drama, electronics, mathematics, mechanics, music, physics, sales, and sports ( Dyslexia Facts & Statistics, 2010 ). However, these gifts are rarely discovered and are only used later in life.
