Topic > Improving the quality of health care for Americans

Today, health care costs can be very high and deductibles and copays are constantly increasing. Numerous Americans lose health coverage every day due to loss of income, due to our struggling economy. At the same time, many Americans find it difficult to secure their coverage, which causes many doubts and irritations for the families involved. Combine these problems with the numerous errors and flaws already present in our healthcare system; It's clear that we, as a country, need an immediate plan to improve the quality of life for Americans. Nearly a quarter of the US population does not have any form of health insurance. Many are even underinsured. The illegal population in this country also contributes to the lack of insurance (Census Bureau, 2010). As a result, many Americans receive little or no health care. Some are poor, but most are actually not. Many of these uninsured Americans are in fact middle-class workers who simply cannot afford coverage. However, they earn “too much” to qualify for Medicaid, the state health care provider. Living here in the “land of opportunity”, it is a real shame that we cannot offer what should be a basic human right to all citizens. Health care should be an undeniable right for all people and not a privilege for a few. Wealth should not dictate how some live in good health, while others suffer and experience pain. I believe that the lack of a universal healthcare system is one of the greatest weaknesses of a society. In an effort to resolve this ongoing dilemma, President Barack Obama created a new, far-reaching healthcare reform bill: the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare)...... half of the document. .....serli, J.
