Anthropology is known as the study of human beings, across time and space. We often view anthropology simply as the evolution of humanity and its fundamental development. After taking a cultural anthropology course, I came to realize how much more in-depth it is. There are many different aspects that we don't consider. We don't need to be anthropologists to see how these concepts can apply to our daily lives. Anthropology also makes you look at the world differently than you were taught. Cultural anthropology has a holistic approach that helps us see how a society relates to itself and how that society can be taken on its own terms without prejudice. It helps to identify our way of seeing the different cultures of the world and to realize that the way we do and see things may not be the only right way there is. There are other people in the world who are different from us and do different things that we are used to or that we believe are “the right way”. Understanding other people is necessary to function and interact with others. This is where anthropology comes in and helps us learn about them. Anthropology examines many different groups of humans and finds commonalities among them. In today's world, many people change due to the influences of other cultures and changes in their environment. For example, I was born in Guyana, which is in South America, and I moved to the United States when I was 12 years old. My culture at home was very different from the Western culture of the United States. After moving here, I felt out of place and had a sense of not belonging. But I became attentive to my surroundings and easily began to learn and become part of what is now my culture. This is… half the paper… the methods anthropologists need to know. They use it to build relationships with strangers who are studying from different societies. This is something that is a skill that we use almost every day. Observation is another key skill you will likely use. We are always observing our surroundings and how other people interact. Even in the business world, these concepts in anthropology help us learn to interact with others and deal with people who are not so easy to deal with. Anthropology gives us the opportunity to expand as human beings. I find that the information I left this lesson with will be a guideline for many different parts of my life and will help me see things from different points of view. It will help me discover various parts of my culture and how our everyday perception and understanding is blocked by not knowing what else is out there.
