It's 2014, and we live, learn, and do everyday tasks like the Jetsons in the future. Technology has changed and continues to change many lives in the way we communicate. In the past, the main means of communication were telephones, pagers and written letters. According to Dictionary.com, “technology is that branch of knowledge concerned with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelationship with life, society and the environment, drawing on such subjects as the industrial arts, engineering, applied sciences and pure sciences”. science” (“Technology” Def 1). Technology, in the 21st century, has changed the way teenagers and other age groups communicate with each other in society on a daily basis. With the invention and use of social networks and electronic devices, technology has made communication faster, easier and more reliable, improving society at large. Social networks like Facebook and Twitter offer users the ability to instantly connect with others around the world. According to Gustavo S. Mesch “studies conducted in the 1980s reported that young people were likely to use online communication with peers they did not know” (Mesch 98). Electronic communication has evolved and expanded in different places around the world over the last 10 years; people of all ages are now using instant messaging, Morgan 2 video conferencing tools like Skype, Oovoo and Face Time to chat with friends and family or conduct business. Evidence shows that “62% of nine to sixteen year olds use instant messaging, 11% write or read a blog, and 59% have a social networking profile” (Mesch 98).
