Child abuse is a situation that affects most children in the 21st century and is becoming one of the key things parents should know. Child abuse can be emotional, physical, mental or even sexual. It is important to discuss sexual abuse as this is an effective way to address it (Hornbacher, 2009). Some of the manifest symptoms of a child who has been sexually abused may include; unexplained pain, means that the child is suffering from injury to the mouth or genitals. Bruises can result from slaps and body parts that have been abused. Sexually transmitted diseases are among the things or signs that can appear on the child's body that can clearly show that a child has been sexually abused. This is mainly because children do not normally suffer from sexually transmitted diseases unless something terrible has happened to them. Besides that, unwanted pregnancies can be another symptom that can show that a child has been sexually abused. Anyone under the age of eighteen is always considered a minor. If one becomes pregnant under the age of eighteen, the person responsible should always be prosecuted for child abuse. Not all children may show the manifest symptoms, some children may not be that bothered by physical abuse, but they may also show latent symptoms which show that children are being sexually abused, such symptoms are psychological torment. Some of these symptoms may include; nightmares and sleep problems, changes in eating habits, outbursts of anger, uncontrollable fear of certain people or places, strong fear of being left alone with certain individuals among many others (Hornbacher, 2009).
