The Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) is a fully integrated lifeguard service providing its services to local government councils and land managers across Australia. As an industry leader in aquatic safety and lifesaving services, they set international standards through quality nationally accredited training programs that produce highly trained personnel and rigorous standard operating procedures. They ensure we remain the industry benchmark for lifesaving services. The Australian Lifeguard Service provides lifeguards to over 250 beaches in Australia. Around 700 lifeguards monitor these beaches. The FTA is strongly supported by government and national infrastructure which includes the provision of:• Nationally accredited training programmes• Specialized lifesaving services• Communications networks• International expertise in lifesaving, medical research, coastal management and equipment development • Recognized standards and compliance systems ALS has more than 30 years of professional experience. They are also supported by Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA). The Australian lifeguard has always been at the forefront of life-saving technology. They are leaders in developing the latest lifesaving tools and techniques, both in Australia and internationally. Through SLSA, the ALS regularly collaborates with organizations at the state and federal levels. This allows them to develop public policies and contribute to its implementation. The ALS is also linked to the International Life Saving Federation (ILS) providing the opportunity to exchange information between other life saving organizations around the world. Lifeguard training and structure: The Australian Life Saving Academy (ALA) partners with the ALS and is able to provide an ongoing staff development program to develop lifeguard skills and knowledge. This also allows for the linking of programs to national industry standards as set out in training packages. Lifeguards must undertake regular assessments of lifesaving skills and suitability. Simulations are run and used to test skills and knowledge to ensure staff are ready to deal with the public and prepared to deal with emergencies when they arise. The ALA employs the latest training and its accredited programs are constantly reviewed to ensure all role requirements are up to date.
