Throughout the centuries, many different musical eras have defined the different eras. A musical style, beautiful, tireless and unique, was the romantic style. It lasted from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century. It was determined by the political and social tensions following the French Revolution and the resulting nationalistic tendencies. The ambition of Romantic composers was to be individualistic and diverse. They wanted to reflect their own emotions and feelings in their compositions (Kauble). Romantic era elements, styles, and composers all convey the attributes of this distinctive period in music history. Romance doesn't mean lying dreamy-eyed in a field graced with flowers bathed in sunlight. It doesn't actually refer to romance. The movement was about intense personal expression. It means a staunch individualist, conveying deep and often uplifting emotions, such as Beethoven's Fifth Symphony which marked the beginning of the Romantic era in music (Wilder).
