“Life is random, messy, and arbitrary, until you find someone who can make sense of it all, if only temporarily” - Matthew Quick, the Silver Linings Playbook novel. This quote interprets the film's argument by emulating the individual mental obstacles that the characters will face. Patrick “Pat” Solatano Jr. and Tiffany Maxwell, two residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Both suffer from a variety of issues, such as psychotic disorder, poor relationship experiences, managing personal emotions, and simply the act of facing and dealing with their dilemmas. Despite their misanthropic and support systems, these two mostly tolerate dysfunctional marital problems and also the struggle to cope with everything they are experiencing. Silver Linings Playbook, directed by David O. Russell, illustrates how a corrupt person can nurture themselves or someone like themselves, regardless of the circumstances they find themselves in. Pat Jr., a strong-minded individual, experiences disturbing marital problems. Even though Pat seems to think his marriage to Nikki is the best thing for him, it turns out to be an epic failure. After seeing his wife cheat on him, he nearly beats his lover to death. As a result of this action, Pat was not sent to prison but sent to a psychiatric facility for eight months, and doctors diagnosed him with bipolar disorder. His courageous attitude and dedication push him to reconnect with Nikki after he is released. Pat's mother and father try to convince Patrick to just focus on improving and controlling his mood swings, but his main goal is to get his wife back. There is no one who can stop Patrick from doing what he intends to do, not a friend or family...... middle of paper......! The longer Tiffany remains single with no one to fill that hole, the longer this strange addiction will continue. To top it off, Patrick and Tiffany go to extreme measures to have a chance at Silver Linings. Pat is pressured by everyone around him to slow him down to fix his relationship. Tiffany, on the other hand, is dealing with her marriage struggles, but in the wrong way. If they had been less selfish and stubborn; perhaps Pat and Tiffany could have found a mutual solution sooner to address their problems. Silver Linings Playbook, directed by David O. Russell, highlights the effectiveness of one person in difficulty over another. When you're down and messed up, don't be afraid to ask someone else for help, no matter how they differ from you, plus, blessings come without warning in any shape or form.
