There are many things to discover soon about this interesting country. GEOGRAPHY: Greece is located in the southern part of Europe with a latitude of 39°N and a longitude of 22°E. It is found in the northern and partly eastern hemisphere. Greece has five main rivers, these include: the Nestos River, the Acheloos River, the Maritsa River, the Pineios River and the Aliakmonas River. One of the highest mountains in Greece, Mount Olympus, or Olympus, is 2,917 meters high. That's over 9,000 feet! Greece's climate varies between zero and 100° Fahrenheit. In winter, the average temperature is below freezing (32° Fahrenheit). In spring and fall, the average temperature does not exceed 65° Fahrenheit. However, in the summer, the average temperature is 100° Fahrenheit. At times, up to 1.5 inches of rain can fall in Greece, but this is a rare occurrence. HISTORY: Greece has a lot of history. First of all, the first inhabitants of Greece were the Pelasgians. The Pelasgians are normally called "Barbarians". Secondly, one of the most famous leaders of Greece was Alexander the Great. He reigned as leader of Greece until 323 BC when he died for unknown reasons. Finally, the three most important battles in Greek history were: the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC, the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC, and the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. The Battle of Marathon took place during the first Persian invasion in 490 BC , fought between the combined forces of Athens and Plataea against the Persian army of King Darius. The Battle of Salamis took place in September 480 BC, between the Greek city-states and their perpetual enemy,For...... middle of paper......Tennis.Other events enjoyed by the Greek people are the Games Olympic, since they originated from Greece. Some famous Greek scientists were Archimedes, Euclid, Hippocrates and Pythagoras. Archimedes was a mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor and astronomer. He is considered one of the leading scientists of classical antiquity. Euclid, also known as Euclid of Alexandria, was a Greek mathematician, called "the father of geometry". Hippocrates was an ancient physician of the age of Pericles. Today he is known as one of the most important figures in the history of medicine. Pythagoras was an Ionian Greek philosopher, mathematician, and founder of Pythagoreanism. There are many attractions in Greece that make it a wonderful place. From the great city of Athens, to the Greek gods and Mount Olympus, Greece is a wonderful place to be.
