Shell's Help in the Niger Delta Region SUMMARY Introduction Shell is a group of oil and petroleum companies. The parent company is Royal Dutch Shell, based in Great Britain, it is a multinational corporation (MNC). The group of companies is active in countries around the world, including Nigeria. The Federal Republic of Nigeria is extremely rich in oil resources. Fittingly, their business connection dates back more than fifty years. Similarly, a Shell company, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), is the largest oil and gas operator in Nigeria. Nigeria is a developing country; therefore Shell has been active in donating to the community. Over the past few decades they have tried different strategies. The company has not always succeeded in helping the Nigerian people. Even so, Shell continued with its social projects, the latest called Sustainable Community Development (SCD). This article will discuss the SCD aid program, which came into force in 2004. It will address the question “to what extent was Shell able to help the community in the Niger Delta region from 2004 to 2012?” The following chapters will try to answer this question. First, a brief history of Nigeria will be given. This chapter will include a brief description of the situation in the Niger Delta, as the SPDC is mainly active in this region. The Nigerian government's efforts to address poverty in the Niger Delta Region (NDR) will be cited. What then are the main efforts of the Nigerian government to help the Niger Delta community? Secondly, Shell's previous aid projects will be briefly mentioned. To examine the SCD it is necessary to cite its predecessors. So, what... middle of paper... DR. There is no prospect of changing the situation. Together they could be more effective.***not finished***CONCLUSIONRESULTS SUMMARY ANSWER RESEARCH QUESTIONBIBLIOGRAPHY Amadi, Bede Obinna and Haslinda Abdullah. “Poverty Alleviation through Corporate Social Responsibility in the Niger Delta, Nigeria.” Asian Social Sciences 8 (2012): 60-.
