Topic > The importance of water management - 1122

An essential element for sustaining life is water. People, animals and plants all need water to live and grow. In some places around the world, there isn't enough water to help people stay healthy. According to B. Malmberg (2007), water is a human right, so the government is responsible for helping to meet people's need for enough safe water. Water Management is the activity of planning, developing, distributing and managing the use of water resources. Interbasin water transfer can be described as an artificial transport scheme that moves water from one river basin to another basin where water is less available or could be better used for human development. Sweden is a developed country, which is officially the Kingdom of Sweden. Sweden is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe surrounded by other developed countries such as Norway and Finland with a tunnel connected to Denmark. Sweden is the third largest country in the European Union by size and has a population of approximately 9.6 million people. According to the United Nations Department for Policy Coordination and Sustainable Development, 85% of Sweden's population lives in urban Sweden. In this project the preparation of Sweden's document with my position towards the resolution, which Sweden supports due to its membership of the United Nations. Sweden is rich in water. The lakes represent 9% of the country's total surface area. There are almost 100,000 lakes, 90% of which have a surface area of less than 1 square kilometre. The four largest lakes make up a quarter of the total lake area. (Bindler Richard 2012). It is an OECD member country which one of its main challenges is to make the use of water sustainable by integrating environmental issues...... middle of paper ......reduction of the water level of the basin donor, which alters the river bed, temperature, nutrient content of the river and its sealing characteristics. Alteration of species and habitats is also a direct consequence of water transfers, i.e. altering the timing of water release and flow has an impact on the receiving basin. In conclusion, the transfer of water between basins would also be useful and would be a very beneficial factor. It would be very expensive to create and also to maintain, the burden of which would be borne by taxpayers, the inter basin is less likely to be considered by the government because the current Swedish government does not believe in an ecosystem and values the environment. Sweden therefore votes in favor of the resolution that no new transfer of water between basins should be undertaken by 1 July 2014 due to the risk to the environment.
