The mystery of what makes an effective leader has fascinated people for thousands of years. There is a big difference between leadership and management. Leadership in my opinion differs from management and requires transformative approaches. Peter F. Drucker states, “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things (Goodreads.com,2014). Management skills can be developed primarily through personal experiences while leadership skills are intrinsic and not there are therefore clear ways to develop it. The vitality of a leader depends more on self-knowledge, pragmatic leadership and pleasing the masses rather than responding to circumstances. To be a successful leader, you need to fully understand your own strengths and weakness. Kevin Panicker, a participant in the Banner Community Service Program at the University of Richmond, once said that "it is of great importance to recognize your strengths and weaknesses because only then can you realize your abilities and limitations. . Recognizing limitations allows for humility and recognition that leaders cannot succeed at everything." (Komives, Lucas &McMahon,2007). A good leader must be able to manage their weaknesses so that they do not outweigh their strengths of strengths or manage them in a way that makes them strengths.
