My uncle worked in the HIV AIDS department for a long period of 15 years and spoke very highly of how his support has transmuted the lives of some individuals and how his contributions have produced prolific results in the prevention of AIDS as a widespread disease. He had sacrificed his career as a successful accountant to serve the less privileged and touched many lives; street beggars, drug addicts and not to mention my own. As a student at my school, I engaged in various forms of volunteering and mostly assisted weak students who were unable to cope with their studies. So when my uncle offered me to join AIDS, I gladly accepted the opportunity and set my sights on an attainable position. Taking advantage of summer holidays, I traveled to the rural villages of Sindh equipped with rudimentary Sindhi, a background in development economics and enthusiastic goals. to establish a change in the village. The first element that caught my attention was illiteracy and desolation. I watched helplessly as children consumed filthy food and contaminated water, men wandered over fields encrusted with animal filth, women engaged in forced labor. A couple more visits exposed me to the tenacious feudal system. I learned that many of the development projects initiated earlier were stymied by landowners who viewed their efforts to improve the conditions of villagers as a detriment to their power and control. Many enthusiastic individuals who gave articulate speeches to bring about a change among primitive beliefs were criticized for provoking the public and suffered severe punishments and public ignominy from the landowners. The consequences were simple; nothing could mitigate the village's abdominal poverty... middle of paper... With this goal in mind, I returned from the meeting, convinced to pursue my studies abroad. I want to enroll in a degree in Economics because I believe that comprehensive economic policies can have a profound impact on people's lives and, to a certain extent, eradicate poverty and promote development. This degree will provide me with sufficient knowledge and understanding that will be helpful in bringing about change in underprivileged areas. At present, my efforts are in vain due to my age and educational disadvantage, but I believe they will yield prolific results in the future when I earn this degree. This scholarship, I believe, will make it a few steps easier for me. If this scholarship is granted to me, I will make sure that I will not be the only one to benefit from it, but also many disadvantaged people, deprived of basic necessities and whose future is bleak.
