What are eSports? E-sports is the competitive side of video games. People use video games to compete against other players around the world. The most common way to achieve this is via the Internet. It has become so big thanks to the community and the organizations that associate with it. Games associated with eSports fall into many different genres; FPS (first person shooter), MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), RTS (real time strategy), fighters, racers and even poker. In the beginning, eSports were not as well known as they are today in the gaming world. It has been shaped into what it is by the players and organizations that host the tournaments. Everything was smaller and local. Not many people knew that you could win money by playing video games. The prizes weren't that big and the competitions weren't that big. Once people started to accept the fact that it is possible to make a living playing video games, they went to great lengths to realize the dream they had since childhood. Now the easiest way to play against players from all over the world would be to connect and play with them over the Internet. Games like DOOM, QUAKE and Counter Strike are primarily played online with players from all over the world using dedicated game servers. Poker is also an example of online eSports. Millions of people access it and play with each other in the comfort of their own homes. The Internet is the most popular way to play competitively against other people online. The only drawback to online gaming is that some games require you to pay a monthly subscription. Games and services like iRacing and World of Warcraft require you to pay in order to use their services and play games. Like…middle of the paper…as people realize. You can make a living playing video games and gain a lot of fame locally or around the world. Parents say, "Go out and make some real friends," but these friends you make in video games ARE real people. If nothing else, you could call it a large community full of people who share the same interest. It exists and will still be there for many years to come.
