The impact of the crisis on female employment has long been underestimated in the Czech Republic, but also throughout the world. In the early stages of the 2008 recession it was thought that job losses would mainly affect the men's sector. Now, given the delayed effects of the crisis and recent savings measures in the Czech public sector, which mainly affects women, it is clear that the employment crisis has also affected women. Job losses and pay cuts in the public sector, which were a typical response of European governments to the economic crisis, significantly threaten gender equality in access to work. Women represent almost 70% of public sector employees in the EU, so any action that affects the number of jobs and their wages in the public sector will always affect women more than men.
