There are many obstacles that a person faces in his life, but difficult to overcome, it would be bullying. Bullying occurs when a person feels the need to belittle, emotionally harm, or physically harm another person because of differences in appearance, culture, or language. (Merriam-Webster, 1882). These reasons are by far the only reasons why a person may behave in a bullying manner. but they are some of the most common seen. It may seem funny to joke about another person, but it can be very damaging to the person on an emotional level causing lifelong problems. A person who is bullied may develop low self-esteem/self-image, resort to self-harm techniques, or commit suicide to stop the pain. A person's self-esteem or self-image can be extremely affected by bullying. Bullying may seem fun at the time, but the consequences can be very damaging to how a person sees themselves or how others see them. Bullying has a negative effect on a person's self-esteem and can make them depressed in life, but this is not only limited to the person who is being bullied but also to the person who is the bully. (Seals, D., & Young, J. 2003.) When a person is bullied, he begins to believe the comments that are made about him and may begin to think less highly of himself. If a person has low self-esteem, this causes them to care less about themselves and others. If having low self-esteem makes him give up on others, he may isolate himself from people he once cared about dearly, which can make him become lonely and selfish. If he started caring less about himself, it could make him stop thinking that he is important and valuable, which in return could make him stop trying in life and give up on his dreams or goals. Something that affects a person's self-esteem also affects how ... middle of paper ... one should deal with it when a situation arises. It may be painful for someone to admit that they are being bullied, but it is important to be aware of another person's daily habits, a small change in daily behavior can be evidence that they are being bullied. It is important to be able to notice differences in behavioral actions, if he keeps to himself more or acts differently in a social context, in which case speak up. Become an advocate for people who need help but aren't getting the attention they need. If it's too much to handle on your own, go to the school administrator, parent, or other adult, let them know you're there to help. Being proactive and helping a victim of bullying plays an important role in preventing them from developing low self-esteem/self-image, turning to self-harm techniques, or attempting suicide.
