Montague and Asan (2013) conducted a field study in which 100 patients aged between 18 and 65 were observed and videos were recorded during visit them to a primary health clinic. The researchers wanted to see how much communication and eye contact doctors would make with their patients when using paper charts compared to using computerized charts in the EHR. Study results showed that physicians paid more attention to electronic medical records on the computer than to actual patients 46.5% of the time and 79% when using paper charts (Montague & Asan, 2013).
