Topic > Culture Gap Issues - 988

An analysis of 4 short videos that present a point of view in relation to cultural issues in organizations, specifically what is related to bridging or mediating the culture gap in a business environment globalized showed the following Key Cultural Issues in my opinion -• Video 1 showed the clash of cultures, specifically the battle to mediate and negotiate a singular organizational culture in the case of corporate acquisitions. Joe McGuire, former CEO of the audio equipment chain, Tweeter talked about "cultural fit" and how it was so difficult to find the right balance to bring all the acquired companies into one corporate culture, given that all the acquisitions stabilized in their own unique way of doing business (traditions, views, philosophies, etc.) (Kotter, 2002).• Video 2 showed Ranjini Manian, CEO of Global Adjustments talking about culture shock especially in the case of expatriates transplanted to a new geographical location that is foreign and different from the social context and corporate culture to which they are accustomed in their home country influences their personal and professional life. She talks about preparing for the 'shock' because by doing so you can overcome it.• Video 3 showed a clip from the comedy film 'Outsourced' in which the 'transplanted American' explains 'American Kitsch' - in this particular scene, that of hamburgers and the branding of cows and their meat, to a professional group of call center agents that the US expatriate was supposed to train. The key message here is to “get to know and learn a new culture” before the actual meeting as the expatriates struggled to explain and teach the engaged “Hindu” group (in Hinduism, cows are sacred). As pointed out in the next part of the clip, an intern stated "...Maybe you should... in the middle of the newspaper... and Americans in general in relation to their eating habits and 'cruelty.'" to the sacred animal. hindi - the Cow. I believe that furthermore, if the 'web' was used in cultural studies and very particular issues, many dimensions of such issues will be addressed, preparing, as indicated in Video 2, people from negative effects of culture shock.
